Beautiful Brixham

Yes, I'm in Beautiful Brixham now, Sue (my wife) and I have been here over 11 years now.

Back in Berkshire there was a period where house prices increased and Devon hadn't caught up.
Wanting to buy a Bungalow with a Sea View was a possibility, so we quickly took advantage and here we are in Gods Country.

We bought a 2 Bedroom Bungalow, where there was space to extend to provide a wet room and small Bedroom for our Grandsons to visit in Holidays.

There was quite a lot of work to be done to build the extension roof and all where the old garage drive was. It took about 5 months to complete and we have gained lots of space. In fact we now have three Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms and a larger Lounge and Master Bedroom.

Bungalow Convertion

Well, it's been a while since my last post, which indicated I now live in Beautiful Brixham, Devon, we've been here over 11 years now.

Sue (my Wife) wanted a Bungalow and I wanted a Sea view. We'd previously toured around Devon and Cornwall, but found we could not afford exactly what we wanted. But there was a sudden rise in House prices where we were in Berkshire and Devon had not caught up. So we took advantage of the rise, sold up in Berkshire and moved to Brixham.

Our two Bed Bungalow needed an extension so our Grandsons could come to stay in holidays, quite a lot of work was needed. We decided to extend across the old garage drive.

Broadband Test

Well now I'm living in Brixham, I decided not to have a Landline and use Mobile for everything including Boadband. I got a deal with 'Three' with 30g of Hotspot use per month at unlimited Data, Plus 200 mins of voice calls and plenty of texts. Below is a speed test of the mobile Broadband.

Try internet speed test

Suits me fine for £20pm.

The Web and development.

Web Development

As I can't play golf anymore (Due to a weak back), I'm still doing the occasional walk in the forest (see below). But it seems I've become a bit of an ancient Computer Geek, I've dabbled with HTML and PHP, also built websites for quite a while now, but web technology is moving quickly, so I've decided to update my knowledge with CSS3, also Javascript and when I get time, Android application development.

I found a great online video tutorial site called the New Boston. Bucky Roberts (the owner) is a scream! and sometimes cracks me up with his comments, but he has a relaxed and informative style that gets the message across and its all free!!

I was going to do OU but I did a couple of OpenLearn maths courses and found their methods and quality were far behind others available on the internet today. I'm to old for degree courses now anyway, besides they won't do me any good, though there's plenty of 'oldies' out there still chasing qualies, to prove to themselves they have intellect. Mind you there's quite a few psuedo intellects out there too, who gained their qualies off the backs of the brighter students.

Anyway I'm not here to moan about learning, learning is good and it keeps the mind active, but my learning must be productive and not self patronising.

So get your Tablets and phones ready, when I've learned Android, I may have a few tricks up my sleeve!!

Decided to learn a bit of Python too, Bucky has that covered as well, he's a very clever man.

Far East on HMS Relentless

Started a new Website

Well, all the old files below, got me remeniscing about those Halcyon Days aboard HMS Relentless, so I did a search on it and found nothing, Well not quite nothing there was a small two year old advert in the Navy News, from a chap called Bill Brennan. He had tried to organise a reunion, but there were only nine people turned up.

I thought how sad is that, if he had a website he may have more success.

So I put a website together www.hmsrelentless.co.uk and found some wonderful old friends. We've had an inaugural meeting and our first reunion will be in November 2013 at Chatham and of Course Bill Brennan will be there.

We've found some great History and very noteable ex- Crew members, we are going from strength to strength and have revived the memory of a great War time Destroyer, later converted to a Fast Anti-Submarine Frigate.

Why not go and have a look for yourselves, enjoy!

I found this a short while ago, its from HMS Relentless, showing roughly where and when lwe went and Ships we met during that Far Flung Commission in 1967

The Forest

I need plenty of excersize to keep myself active, so occasionally I take a walk in Swinley Forest, I'm lucky to have this with a few hundred meters of my home.

Another form of excersize I take, is Golf!

I'm not that good but I try....
